EUROPE: SPIDLA (COMMISSION), "COLLABORATION BETWEEN PUBLIC AND THE PRIVATE SECTOR TO PROMOTE WORKERS’ MOBILITY"

” “The European Mobility Bus is bound for Latvia; it will reach the capital Riga tomorrow. The bus, one of the initiatives scheduled for the European Year for Workers’ Mobility, left Paris on September 22nd and stopped in Helsinki on September 29th and 30th for the European Labour Fair. It will then start moving again, bound for Warsaw (6 October), Prague (9 October), Pecs (Ungheria, 12 October), Milan (16 October) and Brussels (19 October). "Mobility is, first of all, the worker’s personal decision – stated Vladimír Špidla, EU Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs – and, for mobility to become a reality, public authorities, private businesses, trade unions and universities must collaborate". According to Špidla, "the European Labour Fair is an excellent example of how different political, social and economic stakeholders can join forces to advertise the advantages that a free job market offers workers". The fair included 450 events in 300 cities, in the attempt to shed light on "the new opportunities that citizens now enjoy, encouraging them to live and work in other countries and in different positions". ” “
