” “The EU Parliament, gathered in plenary session in Strasbourg, approved two cultural programs today: Media and Cultura. The first one is about the audiovisual industry and, according to German MEP Ruth Hieronymi "it contains clear references to the importance of European cinema for intercultural dialogue, language differences" and "the principles of human dignity, equality and non discrimination". The measure, which will boost artistic production in this area, will be funded by 671 million euros for 2007-2013. The EU audiovisual area should help strengthen identity and promote cultural diversity in the continent, not least to fight foreign competition. The EU funds will be paid in the form of subsidies or grants. The Cultura 2007-2013 program aims instead at "promoting mobility of people working in the cultural industry", "encouraging flows of works of art and cultural and artistic products across borders". Overall the program will receive about 400 million euros. In this case financial aids will be in the form of subsidies to legal or natural persons.” “
