COUNCIL OF EUROPE: STRASBOURG, A FORUM ON SOCIAL COHESION TO RECONSIDER CULTURAL DIVERSITY

” “During its history, Europe has learnt how to consider cultural diversity a resource for its lifestyle. So why then is it afraid today of the diversity that migrants embody? This is the question addressed by the Forum 2006 about cohesion, held in Strasbourg on 9th and 10th November on the initiative of the Council of Europe (CoE). The topic is: "What social cohesion in a multicultural Europe?". The debate will try to reconsider integration policies, especially those that look like unilateral processes that place cultural differences at the heart of the sources of exclusion which migrants suffer from. Hence the need for global and consistent policies to face the causes of inequality and give migrants and their heirs an effective political role, as well as the equally pressing need of opening spaces for genuine negotiations in all the areas of society, with a view to achieving a true understanding of diversity". ” “
