” “"Forum on the future population of Europe": this is the title chosen for the two days’ reports and discussions, promoted by the EU Commission and planned for 30th and 31st October in Brussels. "It will be an exchange of experiences and know-how among the EU countries", explains the press office of the EU Executive Committee, and "will specifically address the problem of the rise in the age of the population". The EU Commission has published a Green Book on the subject and recently a new memo for outlining some common guidelines for the 25 member states. Delegates of the institutions and experts (400 people are expected to attend the event) will try to find "effective measures to cope with the challenges of the rise in the mean age within the EU" and the attendant decrease in the number of working-age people. The good practices that will be reviewed will "include the white-haired economy" (products and markets specifically targeted to elderly people) and "a Swedish initiative that promises a healthier ageing". At the same time, the floor will review the roles "that the regions and the local bodies can play in the management of the current change in the European population".” “
