EUROPE: POTOCNIK (COMMISSION), "VAST IMPROVEMENT IN INDUSTRIAL INVESTMENTS IN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT"

” “"The investments made by European industries in research and development have improved by 5% in 2005". This figure is shown by a survey presented in Brussels today by the EU Commission. According to Janez Potoènik, Commissioner for science and research, "the Investment Scoreboard shows very promising results. If this trend is confirmed, we will be able to slowly bridge the gap that exists in industry investments". The EU is going to hold a meeting on this subject in October. The Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard shows that "in 2005 the investments made by the one thousand most important EU companies have increased on average by 5.3%". This figure is 7.7% if referred to the one thousand most important non-EU companies. According to this survey, "the EU still retains a leading position since it has 18 of the main industry investors". Most leading investors come from the automotive, pharmaceutical and computer hardware industries. "Once again – reads the report -, Daimler-Chrysler is the top investor in innovation among all of the EU-based companies".” “
