BENEDICT XVI: "BROTHERLY" MEETING WITH THE SWISS BISHOPS TO DISCUSS THE LIFE AND SITUATION OF THE CHURCH

” “The unity of the bishops with each other and with the successor of Peter; cooperation among bishops; communion with the bishop; the role of the priest within the parish and in pastoral units; ecumenism. Here are some of the subjects that were discussed by the Swiss Bishops with the Pope and with the heads of some ministries of the Roman Curia on 7-9 November 2006, at the end of their visit ad limina. This was relayed by the Vatican Newsroom in a release published today, in which it also informs that "the meeting was inspired by a true brotherly affection, during which – in honest dialogue and in a spirit of cooperation – they dealt with issues concerning the life and situation of the Church in Switzerland and elsewhere". Other discussed topics: "The bishop as the master of faith and the major doctrinal and pastoral problems of the Swiss dioceses; seminaries, faculties and advanced schools of theology in the mission of the Church; the liturgical renewal and compliance with discipline". The meeting, went on the Newsroom, "helped improve mutual acquaintance and strengthen the bond of unity. In addition, it clearly showed that the Swiss Bishops share the wish to face today’s challenges with hope, responsibility and courage, in trustful cooperation with the action of God within the hearts of men and women".” “
