BENEDICT XVI AT THE ANGELUS: "’CONVERTING’ THE GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT MODEL"

"In our Christian families, children are taught to always thank the Lord, before eating, with a short prayer and the sign of the Cross. This habit must be maintained or rediscovered, because it teaches not to take ‘one’s daily bread’ for granted, but to see in it a gift of the Providence". This was said yesterday morning by the Pope, before introducing the Angelus prayer, as he mentioned the celebration of the yearly thanksgiving day, which yesterday was about "The earth: a gift for the whole human family". "We should get used to blessing the Maker – added Benedict XVI – for everything: for air and for water, precious elements that are the foundation of life on earth; as well as for the foods that, through the fecundity of the earth, God offers us for our sustenance". To His disciples, highlighted the Holy Father, "Jesus taught to pray, asking the heavenly Father not ‘my’, but ‘our’ daily bread. Thus He wanted every man to feel jointly responsible for his brothers, so that no one would lack what he needs to live. The products of the earth are a gift intended by God ‘for the whole human family’". (to be continued)
