BENEDICT XVI: TO THE AMBASSADOR OF JAPAN, THE "SEARCH FOR A FAIR AND STABLE PEACE IN THE WORLD" IS A PRIORITY

” “”The search for peace amidst the nations must be a priority in international relationships". This was said today by the Pope who, while in audience with the new ambassador of Japan to the Holy See, Kagefumi Ueno, invited the Japanese community "to strive to contribute to the establishment of a fair and stable peace in the world, especially in the Far East", where the Holy See "encourages bilateral or multilateral negotiations", in the belief that "the solution must be found through peaceful means and respectfully of the commitments taken by all parties, to achieve the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula". Benedict XVI voiced the wish "that the international community may continue and increase its humanitarian aids to the most vulnerable populations, especially in North Korea, so that no interruption can entail serious consequences for civilians". "Violence can never be a just answer to the problems of society, because it destroys the dignity, the life and the freedom of man", insisted the Pontiff, according to whom "first and foremost, peace must be built within the heart", starting from the "acknowledgement of the spiritual dimension of society" and from a "true dialogue between religions and cultures".” “
