Benedict XVI firmly condemned the "brutish murder" of the Ministry of Industry of Lebanon, the Christian Pierre Gemayel, which took place yesterday in Beirut. At the end of the audience, before greeting the Italian-speaking pilgrims, the Pontiff expressed his "grief" for this piece of news and "prayer and sympathy with the mourning family and the beloved Lebanese people", urging them "not to give in to hatred, but join forces for the future of peace". Then Benedict XVI asked the international community for "a global, negotiated resolution" to guarantee stability in the region.
