BENEDICT XVI: TO ROWAN WILLIAMS, CONTINUINING “THE THEOLOGICAL DIALOGUE” (2)

“We believe these issues" are "vitally important for preaching the Gospel in its entirety and that the debate going on about it within yourselves will affect the future of our relations”. This was said by Benedict XVI to the Primate Rowan Williams during the meeting that took place in the Vatican this morning, with reference to "priesthood and some moral lessons" that have aroused misgivings of late in the relationships between Catholics and Anglicans. Then, the Pope made the wish that "the work of theological dialogue, that found a fairly high level of agreement on these and other important theological topics, may be always seriously reflected in your judgment". "We hope – went on Benedict XVI – the Anglican communion will still be based on the Gospels and the Apostolic Tradition that are our common heritage and the foundations of our common aspiration to work towards a full and visible unity". "It is important – he concluded – that, despite the current problems, we continue our theological dialogue”.
