BENEDICT XVI: TO ROWAN WILLIAMS, “THE WORLS NEEDS OUR SHARED TESTIMONY”

” “”The world needs our testimony and the strength that comes from an undivided proclamation of the Gospel. The huge sufferings of the human family and the injustices that affect the lives of so many people urgently call for our shared testimony and service”. This was said this morning by Benedict XVI to the archbishop of Canterbury and Primate of the Anglican Church, Rowan Williams, received in the Vatican. As he recalled "the long history of the relationships between the See of Rome and the See of Canterbury”, Benedict XVI expressed his gratitude for the presence of the Anglican Primate "at the funerals of John Paul II" and "at the opening of my pontificate one and a half years ago", and mentioned that today’s visit "coincides with the 40th anniversary of the visit of the then archbishop of Canterbury, Michael Ramsey, to Paul VI”, since when "the Anglican Communion and the Catholic Church" have made progress "in the search of visible unity".
