"What is the ‘truth’ that Christ has come to testify in the world?" This question was asked, yesterday, by Benedict XVI, before saying the Angelus prayer from Saint Peter’s Square, on the occasion of the feast of Christ the King. "All His life explained the Pope reveals that God is love: this is then the truth that He fully testified by sacrificing His own life on the Calvary. The Cross is the ‘throne’ from which He manifested the sublime majesty of God-Love". The way to reach the Kingdom of God, added the Holy Father, "is long and admits of no shortcuts: everyone must freely welcome the truth of God’s Love. He is Love and Truth, and no love or truth can ever be imposed: they knock on the door of the heart and mind and, whenever they are let in, they bring peace and joy". This, highlighted Benedict XVI, "is God’s way of reigning; this is His design of salvation, a ‘mystery’ in the Biblical sense of the word, i.e. a design that is revealed little by little through history". Christ’s majesty, concluded the Pope, "has been associated, in a very special way, with the Virgin", who responded to God’s call "with all herself, joining her unconditional ‘yes’ to that of Jesus the Son and making herself obedient, with Him, through to her sacrifice".
