” “”For strengthening dialogue between the Catholic church and the Jewish church and for preserving the memory of the Jews killed during the Holocaust and those who saved them”: this is the reason for the "For Jews in Hungary" award, which has been granted this year, for the first time, to a representative of the Catholic community, cardinal Péter Erdo, archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest and president of the Hungarian Bishops Conference. The award is granted every year by the Federation of Jewish communities in Hungary (Mazsihisz). According to Péter Feldmájer, president of the Federation, the award has been given "for strengthening dialogue between the Catholic church and the Jewish church reports the Catholic agency Magyar Kurír -, as well as for preserving the memory of the Jews killed during the Holocaust and those who saved them". “An unprecedented fact, of course confirms Feldmájer -, but I think every favourable course must have a start somewhere". Cardinal Péter Erdo mentioned that the prize "has been given to all the Church, through his own person": "The return to the past and the common search for the truth he stated can have a beneficial, healing effect on society".” “
