"In this land that is a meeting point … I willingly use the words of its founder, Ataturk: peace in the world". This is the final passage of the message the Pope wrote in English on the Golden Book of the mausoleum of Ataturk that Benedict XVI has just visited and where he laid a wreath of flowers with the inscription "Pope Benedict XVI" on the tomb of the founder of the Republic of Turkey. The Pope lingered a few minutes in meditation in front of the tomb of Ataturk, consisting of one single block weighing over 40 tons, enclosed in the mausoleum, which resembles a Greek temple. The interiors are all panelled in green marble and gold mosaics".
