An open debate on "Migrants: factors of change The role of religions and Churches in Europe" will be held on Wednesday 8th November in Strasbourg, at the Protestant Church of Saint Pierre-Le-Jeune (at 8 pm). The initiative is part of the Forum 2006 for Social Cohesion that will be held on 9th and 10th November at the Council of Europe (CoE) about "What social cohesion in a multicultural Europe?". The goal of the debate is to place emphasis on the extraordinary contribution that the Churches and the religious communities can give to the building of a pluralist Europe. By objecting to the idea that the religions are sources of conflict, the speakers, including Gilda Farrel, head of the division for the development of social cohesion at the CoE, and delegates of the churches working in the migration field, will try to show that the Churches can build a more humane society, able to handle the restlessness that is caused by the changes brought by migration.
