SPAIN: CARD. ROUCO VARELA (MADRID), "CALLED TO HAND FAITH DOWN" TO THE YOUNG AND WITH THE YOUNG

With a pastoral letter, the archbishop of Madrid, card. Antonio Maria Rouco Varela, invited the parish priests, church rectors, directors of colleges and university centres, presidents and managers of church associations and movements to take part in the start of the Youth Mission that will be developed over the pastoral year 2006-2007 "in order to hand faith in Christ down to the younger generations". It is, wrote the cardinal, "a fine task we are all called to carry out". The cardinal recalls that the Youth Week is going to be celebrated from 8th to 12th November, around the Feast of the Virgin of Almudena, a time in which "we want to invite the young to become responsible for handing faith down to their friends and mates and celebrate the joy of being aware of being followers of Christ in today’s world". "I am sure – concludes card. Rouco Varela – that, if we all place our people at the service of the Gospel, we will be the witnesses of new springtime in the life of the Church".
