In a statement made on the occasion of the World Day against Aids, which is held today, René van der Linden, president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, explains: "Fighting Hiv/Aids does not mean just finding medical solutions but also stopping prejudice. Too many people regard Aids as other people’s disease, as a foreigners’ disease, thus causing discrimination". This attitude "must change, not only because it is unfair for those who suffer, but also because it undermines the effectiveness of our response".
