"Working in a different country offers people the opportunity to learn a new language, discover a new culture and acquire new skills": Vladimír pidla, commissioner in charge of employment and social affairs, explains from Lille the goals that have been pursued in 2006, the European Year for Workers’ Mobility. The special Year ends with an international conference held today and tomorrow in the French city. "Professional mobility adds pidla is also essential to pursue the European goal of promoting growth and employment". And, while during 2006 "the number of people that have been made aware of mobility has grown, in 2007 we have to draw on the lessons learnt from the Year and develop a veritable culture of mobility" within the EU. The Conference of Lille, to be attended by about one hundred speakers, politicians and experts, is going to review the activities that have been put in place over the last 12 months. "With two thousand events, the campaign raised people’s awareness of their right to work in a different country and how to assert such right, strengthened the tools to help them find work abroad" through the specialist Eures portal and "pinpointed the obstacles that still hinder the accomplishment of a veritable European labour market".
