An appeal to "fairness" and to "living these hours with dignity" was made yesterday by the President of the Chilean Bishops Conference, mgr. Alejandro Goic, just after the death of the former dictator Augusto Pinochet, and the subsequent streets riots, where people were arrested and injured. Mgr. Goic recalled that, "regardless of the historical judgement on his figure, before the majesty of death, which doesn’t spare any human being, the right attitude is one of respect". "Personally specified the president of the Chilean Bishops I have my own opinion about his government’s disrespect for human dignity. But we must live these hours with dignity". Mgr. Goic also invited people to respect the decisions taken by the government as to the funerals.
