BENEDICT XVI: FOR MANY PEOPLE, "GOD IS ALIEN TO THEIR INTERESTS". MAY "CHRISTMAS NOT FIND US DISTRACTED OR BUSY"

Many consider "God alien to their interests", while "false prophets keep offering ‘cheap’ salvation, which ends up causing bitter disappointment". It was said today by Benedict XVI during the Wednesday catechesis focussed on Advent and Christmas, when he also made an appeal to Christians: "When He is born amidst us, may the Holy Child not find us distracted or busy just decorating our homes with lights. Let’s rather set up within our soul and in our families a worthy dwelling where He may feel welcomed with faith and love". The Pope also recalled that the liturgy of Advent "exhorts us as well to be moderate and vigilant, not be let ourselves be burdened by sin and by the excessive worries of the world. It is by keeping vigil and praying that we can recognise and welcome the splendour of Christ’s Christmas". But "are the men of our time still waiting for the Saviour?", he asked. "One would feel – he commented – that many people consider God alien to their interests. They seem not to need Him; they live as if He did not exist and, even worse, as if He were an ‘obstacle’ to be removed in order to accomplish their own wishes". (to be continued)” ” ” ” ” “
