BENEDICT XVI: CARD. SODANO, "PETER’S PRIMACY IS A SERVICE OF LOVE TO THE CHURCH AND TO ALL MANKIND"

"Peter’s primacy" consists in a "service of love to the Church and to all mankind": it was said today in the Vatican by card. Angelo Sodano, Dean of the Sacred College, in his message of good wishes for Christmas and the New Year to Pope Benedict XVI during the audience with the Cardinals, the Papal Household, the Curia and the Roman Prelacy. "This is precisely why – added Sodano – his first Encyclical is all about reminding us that ‘Deus caritas est’ and that we too must feel such sentiments of love for our brothers and sisters, all created in the image of God". As he outlined Benedict XVI’s action, card. Sodano highlighted the practice of the "love of truth, by reminding all Christians of the endless topicality of the Gospel of Christ" and "the love of the Good Samaritan, by promoting so many factual initiatives of good all over the world, in the area of health care, education and social work, thereby showing that the Church is the house of solidarity".
