WYD OF SIDNEY: CHRISTMAS, MGR. FISHER TO THE YOUNG, "BE THE WITNESSES OF CHRIST"

"The World Youth Day is due in just one and a half year’s time: may this Christmas be a time of preparation for the pilgrimage to Sydney. Get ready for the journey now: clean the hut of your heart, receive the Holy Child and kneel in front of His manger". This is the invitation that mgr. Anthony Fisher, the bishop in charge of organising the WYD of Sidney 2008, sends to the young of the world for Christmas. In a message published on the official website of the WYD (wyd2008.org), mgr. Fisher writes: "it is the time we exchange gifts. Last year, the young of all over the world met in Cologne, ‘the city of the Three Wise Men’, to bring to Christ not just gold, frankincense and myrrh but something much more valuable: their faith, their hopes, their love. They joined Benedict XVI, meditating on the very first moments in Christ’s life. The Son of God spent most of His lifetime amidst us, not as a child or an adult, but as a young man. A man the same age as our pilgrims of the WYD". "After completing His mission – goes on the Bishop – Jesus promised us one further gift and asked us for one. He promised us the Holy Spirit, asking us in return to be His witnesses in front of the whole world. And this is precisely the subject chosen for the World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney".
