“We are not worried. We have studied the subject and keep doing so. Scientific literature about the subject does not confirm that the exposure to electromagnetic fields can induce a risk of health damage”. This was said today by father Federico Lombardi, manager of Radio Vaticana, the Vatican radio station, as he answered the questions of the journalists during the press conference held for the 75th anniversary of RV. “We have acknowledged the worries of the population living around the transmitting centre of Santa Maria in Galeria and since September 1st 2001 we have rigorously adhered to the Italian legislation which sets very strict limits", said father Lombardi, who insisted that "all the measurements taken by the Italian authorities confirm we comply with the set limits”. However, he added, “We need widespread information on real facts about the alleged electromagnetic contamination and we need to know with certainty what is harmful and what is not. It’s not fair to rely on irresponsible and non-objective information". As is known, the Vatican radio station has been sued twice in connection with the alleged electromagnetic contamination induced by the transmitting centre of Santa Maria di Galeria.
