EUROPE: COX (IEM), "A SHARED PERSPECTIVE FOR MEDITERRANEAN COUNTRIES"

"Strengthening dialogue and political relations" between the two shores of the Mediterranean Sea; continuing "the study carried out through ten theme workshops"; developing an "action plan", to cope with the "social, economic and political challenges" that await Europe and its coastal countries. These are the stated objectives of the meeting, named "Dialogue between the North and the South on the Mediterranean. A shared view of the future", due to open tomorrow in Algiers, promoted by the International European Movement (IEM) along with Alexandria’s Library and the Anna Lindh Foundation. The meeting will be opened by Abdelaziz Bouteflika, president of the Republic of Algeria, to last until February 26th. "The Iem – explained the current president, Pat Cox, former President of he EU Parliament – for many years has been engaged in connecting the civil society with the official institutions of the euro-Mediterranean region. Four hundred delegates, who are working at such plan, will meet in Algiers to continue the debate and to adopt a shared political statement". The study groups of Iem focus on different subject, including education, employment, migration, investments, participation and culture.
