COMMUNICATION: AN IDEA FROM SPAIN, A ROOM IN EVERY PARISH WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY TO "EVANGELISE IN CYBERSPACE"

” “Spain put forward the idea of providing every parish with a room for "creative communication" to use new technology (computers, the Internet, videos, mp3) and "evangelise in cyberspace": it comes from the young auxiliary bishop of a diocese in northern Spain, Oviedo, mgr. Raúl Berzosa, who suggested parishes should provide "rooms for creative communication – as he explained to local paper "The Voice of the Asturias" – because the Church must be abreast of the times to spread the Gospel". The parish communication rooms should be equipped with "computers to check emails and view online opinion blogs". The new room could also have "places to watch films and design a website for the parish". The young bishop, who normally uses the Internet, listens to music on his mp3 and is in favour of new technology, thinks that "catechists too should use it". Mgr. Raúl Berzosa, who for years has been professor of theology and is famous for his books, states that "cyberspace is a new place of evangelisation".” “
