EUROPE: BORRELL, "JOINING FORCES TO DEFEAT THE THREAT OF INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM"

” “"Tomorrow it will be exactly two years from the dramatic terrorist attacks in my country, Spain, which killed 192 people. After all these attacks, there’s been a firm response from the EU as well as from all European leaders, who have joined forces to declare the need of joint actions to prevent terrorism in Europe". Josep Borrel, president of the 25-member Parliament, addresses the problem of international violence on the European Day of the Victims of Terrorism. After one minute of silence at 11 am in all of the EU offices, a meeting is in progress in the Brussels headquarters before 600 students from local and London schools. More bloody attacks took place in the British capital on July 7th 2005. After commemorating the London victims as well, Borrell stated that "the onus is on us to keep fighting terrorism in all its forms". And then: "Our Parliament has always fought for human dignity, freedom and equality. We will fight against terrorism. We will always support the victims of terrorism in their demand for justice". "But one thing must be clear – added Borrell -. We will not achieve anything on our own: we can win the fight only if the European democracies join forces to defeat the threat we have in front of us".” “
