HOLY LAND: JERICHO JAIL; PIZZABALLA (CUSTODIAN): "AN APPEAL TO CALM. NEGOTIATIONS ARE NEEDED, NOT WEAPONS"

A powerful appeal to calm and talks comes from the Custodian of the Holy Land, father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, about the Israeli raid which is taking place in the jail of Jericho and the reactions of the Palestinians in Gaza and in other cities of the Territories, where some Western people seem to have been abducted. "These are agitated moments – he says to SIR – in which news follow each other all the time. But we have to wait for a confirmation. So, we have to keep calm and find negotiated solutions to the matter. Negotiations are needed, not weapons". Finally, the Custodian does not confirm the rumours about the killing of some Western hostages who had been abducted.
