” “Accession, economic globalisation, European social model: these are the three subjects to be discussed at the second Citizens Forum, due today at the Kaisersaal of Hamburg’s City Hall. The event is part of a broader schedule of meetings promoted by the EU Parliament to "bring the debate on the directions to be given to Europe to a municipal and regional level", so as to "make sure the public opinion of the continent will be listened to by its leaders". After the French and Dutch "vetoes" to the Constitution and the deadlock in which the EU integration process fell in 2005, the EU institutions have kick-started plans to put the EU Constitution back on the agenda. In this respect, last January the Strasbourg Assembly had passed the Duff-Voggenhuber resolution, containing a yearly schedule of meetings involving EU MPs, national Parliaments, citizens, associations, mass media, schools and universities. The first Forum took place in Saarbrücken, Germany, on March 16th. "The chosen approach explains a release from Parliament consists in discussing subjects of special interest for the region or the country in which the forum is held, in order to involve as many people as possible". Round tables will be held during the first six months of this year in some cities in France, Germany, Greece, Poland and Sweden. "After the first few events, the conclusions will be submitted to the heads of government of the member states which will review them at the June meeting".” “
