EUROPE: PARLIAMENT, DEBATE ON PROSTITUTION AND CEREMONY FOR THE VICTIMS OF TERRORISM

A party "as well as an opportunity to reflect on women’s condition today": on the occasion of the International Woman’s Day, the President of the EU parliament, Josep Borrell, along with the political forces represented in Brussels, promoted, for Wednesday 8th March, "a workshop about the increasing phenomenon of forced prostitution", which mostly happens "on the occasion of big international events, such as sports events, for instance the World Football Championship that will take place in Germany next summer". The EU Parliament will host therefore a meeting between the EU members, the deputy president of UEFA and many EU Commissioners. Next week’s political agenda includes the meeting of the budget committee "to look at the progress of the negotiations about the financial prospects for 2007-2013". Next Friday at Parliament "a ceremony will be held to commemorate the victims of the terrorist attacks in Europe, in particular those of the London and Madrid bombings". The work of the political groups will be focussed on the run-up to the plenary session in Strasbourg due from March 13th to 16th. "During the week of the session, the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, and the German president, Horst Köhler, will speak to the assembly. In addition, the EU Parliament will discuss the next European Council, free labour flows, business delocalisation and human trade".
