BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA: A BRICK TO RECONSTRUCT CATHOLIC PARISHES AND PROMOTING RECONCILIATION

” “Donating a brick to reconstruct a few Bosnian parishes in Posavina, on the border with Croatia, destroyed by the latest Balkan War. It is the Lent solidarity action launched by Iko Skoko, Robert Ružic and Father Josip Oršolic, parish priests in the Mostar and Medjugorje area, in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The initiative was called “Herzegovina Posavina” and its purpose, said Father Ružic to SIR, “is to give a house to lots of Catholic believers escaping from their houses during the war, and together with it, the opportunity to go back to their fatherland. Together with houses, we shall also try to reconstruct those places of worship hit by the fury of the War”. Father Ružic said to be persuaded that “a lot of people will go back, because they love and cherish their native land, but they are also strong enough to forgive and become reconciled”. The action will be opened in Citluk, on Sunday 12 March, with the presence of Cardinal Vinko Puljic, metropolitan archbishop of Sarajevo, and it will last until May 1st. After the celebration, the Cardinal will bless the first two trailers full of bricks meant for the parishes of Bosanski Brod and Hrvatska Tišina. In that period, through an awareness campaign, newspapers, radios and TVs will invite “all the men of goodwill to donate a small amount of money to buy a brick for the reconstruction, by dialling 00387/92850850, or by sending SMS messages to number 00387/6388850″. ” “
