IRAQ: WARDUNI (BAGHDAD). "MAY THE RESURRECTION OF CHIRST BRING HOPE TO THE COUNTRY". YOUNG CATHOLICS KEEP WATCH IN FRONT OF THE CHURCHES

” “Unarmed young people too will be watching, along with the police, the Catholic churches during the celebration of the Easter triduum in Baghdad. "In this way – says the Chaldean auxiliary bishop of Baghdad, mgr. Shlemon Warduni to SIR – we would like to convey a feeling of tranquillity and give a sign of peace in this special time of prayer and meditation". "Our youth will help pointing out people who are not known to the community or suspect vehicles that want to stop in front of the places of worship". "The Holy Week – states the bishop – opened last Sunday with the procession of Palm Sunday. The churches were brimming with people and everything went on with no problems of security. Now the Easter triduum is awaiting us but we trust God that everything will go in the best possible way without any problem. We will offer all our masses for peace in the world, for the rebirth and security of Iraq". The liturgical schedule of the Easter triduum is tight: "Maundy Thursday at about 4.30 pm we will have the washing of the feet and Mass ‘in coena Domini’. Celebrations also on Good Friday, still in the afternoon, until 7.00 pm. On Saturday afternoon we will celebrate Mass for children. On Easter Sunday High Masses will be celebrated in the parish churches from 7 am until 12 am". "This Easter – concludes the bishop – will also stand out for a procession in the cathedral, during which the Resurrection of Christ will be announced, and just before Mass a prayer for peace will be read. May the Resurrection of Christ bring renewal all over Iraq and the hope of certainty and peace".” “
