” “"This initiative has been developed to raise public awareness about learning democracy and promoting it in schools and out of schools". In fulfilment of the engagement made upon taking the six-monthly chair of the Council of Europe, the Rumanian Government has organised the conference "Learning and living democracy: the way to go" to be held in Sinaia on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th. The meeting, which will be attended by representatives from 46 CoE member states, European schools and universities, will offer the opportunity to make a final assessment of the European Year of Citizenship through Education, which was carried out in 2005. In addition, Sinaia will be the venue of the opening of "a three-year action plan for education in democratic citizenship and human rights". A release sent out in Strasbourg, where the CoE is based, reads that "many government officers, educationalists and representatives of civil society have taken part in innovative plans and workshops; these activities have turned into an intensive exchange of experiences, leading to the establishment of new partnerships and cooperation networks". The opening session of the conference will be attended by Mihail Hardau, Rumanian minister for education and research, and Maud de Boer Buquicchio, deputy secretary general of the CoE. In addition, Louise Arbour, High Commissioner for Human Rights at the United Nations, is also awaited.” “
