” ““The European churches and the challenges of peace, security and reconciliation”. About this subject, the 24 members of the “Church and Society” Committee of the Kek (European church Conference), along with a group of experts from over 20 European countries, will discuss at the yearly plenary meeting planned at Stiftelsen (Stockholm) from April 29th to May 3rd. The meeting reads today’s release from Kek will review the role of the political authorities, organisations and churches in the area of peace, security and reconciliation, through a survey of the current conflicts and the responses given to them. They will obviously also discuss terrorism. The members of the plenary meeting will review the measures taken by the institution to fight this plague. “For decades explains Rudiger Noll, director of the “Church and Society” Committee Christians and some church departments have gained experience in the prevention of conflicts, the handling of conflicts through non-violence and after-conflict reconciliation. I doubt however this experience has been fully made use of by the churches and institutions. The plenary meeting intends to give a contribution so that the role of the European Christian churches in this area will be stronger”.
