” “Mgr. Antonios Naguib, until now the emeritus bishop of Minya of the Copts, is the new patriarch of Alexandria of the Catholic Copts. He was appointed in accordance with the Codex Canonum Ecclesiarum Orientalium, in consultation with the Pope by the Synod of the bishops of the Coptic Church gathered in the Convent of Saint Joseph of the Egyptian nuns of the Sacred Heart in Cairo from March 27th to 30th 2006. The Synod accepted His Beatitude Cardinal Stephanos II Ghattasì’s renunciation to the patriarchal office. Mgr. Antonios Naguib was born on March 18th 1935 in Samalout, in the eparchy of Minya. Ordained priest on October 30th 1960, he taught Holy Writs at the Patriarchal Seminar of Maadi until he was appointed bishop of Minya on July 26th 1977.” “
