SWITZERLAND: THE “ISLAM” BISHOPS’ WORKGROUP VISITING IRAN

Promoting inter-religious dialogue. This is the priority of the delegation of the “Islam” workgroup (Gti) of the Swiss Bishops Conference that will go to Iran from April 17th to 24th to meet the Islam Culture and Relations agency Icro. “Respect and dialogue – reads a release from the Swiss bishops – imply an extended knowledge of the person one wants to talk to. A fundamental openness, which prevents intolerance and the segregation of a religious and cultural community. It is important, therefore, that representatives of different religions meet and talk”. During the visit to Iran, the Gti delegation, headed by its president, mgr. Pierre Bürcher, is also going to meet some representatives of the Christian and Jewish minorities. Through this meeting, Gti reciprocates the visit that an Icro delegation paid to Switzerland last September.
