” “”Finding common ground, where the nations can build effective anti-terrorism strategies”, partly relying on “cooperation” among religions, which can build “bridges between cultures and civilisations”. This is the invitation made to the international community by mgr. Celestino Migliore, permanent observer of the Holy See to the UN, who spoke yesterday at the 60th Informal Consultation on the Anti-Terrorism Strategy. As he repeated his “firm condemnation of terrorism” in all its forms, the delegate of the Holy See wished “cooperation, dialogue and prayer may put an end to terrorism and build a fair and peaceful cohabitation within the human family”. “When the true nature of religion is rightly understood and experienced said the apostolic nuncio it can become a part of the solution rather than the problem, since it will promote human commitment and will protect the dignity of others for everyone’s common good”. The role of religions, recalled the Vatican delegate, is to “create, support and promote” human dignity, “the prerequisite of every step forward, of every dialogue, and of every understanding of pluralism and cultural diversity”. In addition, the Holy See renewed its support to resolution 1624 of the UN Security Council, which condemns and repudiates every form of “instigation” or praise of terrorism, even if conducted through the Internet and the mass media.
