HOMELESS: FEANTSA, MORE COOPERATION AMONG EUROPEAN, NATIONAL AND LOCAL INSTITUTIONS

” “Fighting the phenomenon of the homeless means fighting social exclusion, and the European Union must give its contribution to make this fight successful. This is the message received at the end of the workshop that took place in Brussels yesterday, at the Committee of the Regions, about “Glocalisation of the policies for the homeless”. Promoted by Feantsa, the federation of associations working in this sphere, the workshop was attended by Lady Hanham, member of the Committee of the Regions, who repeated that “the phenomenon of the homeless must become a priority in the European agenda. It is not just about being rootless, but it also involves other forms of social exclusion, such as living in poor or unsafe houses. Nevertheless, without actual cooperation among European, national and local institutions, we stand no chances”. The pledge made at the Feantsa workshop is consistent with the decisions of the Council of Europe of March 2005, which identify the fight against the phenomenon of the homeless as one of the priorities of the plan for fighting poverty, which is being carried out across the EU.
