"Something is dramatically changing in the way people become Christians today". It is one of the statements of fact that lingered in the background of the tenth meeting of the bishops with the national directors for catechesis in Europe, which took place in the past few days on the initiative of the Council of European Bishops Conferences (Ccee) and Cei, about: "Christian initiation as a process to become Christians". "The importance of keeping in touch with the new members of the Church reads the final release which was sent out today by Ccee was highlighted by participants from all over Europe, in the light of the worrying rate of desertion even right after the cathecumenate". "Service and listening goes on the release are the keywords everywhere and concern all those who are involved in the process", since today "many of those who approach the Church are people in search of the spiritual, not people who ‘blindly obey’, as they used to do in the past". Hence the need "of a sound training of the catechists", which should no longer be left "to their resourcefulness". One of the news emerging from the meeting is the report of the Russian-speaking group, which showed that "hose who have survived as members of clandestine Catholic communities are still mistrustful of group meetings and exchanges of experiences, and approach the sacraments in a very peculiar way".
