” “The "building of a free, brotherly and sympathetic world, in which taking care of people may prevail over mere economic aspects" and in which "religious freedom may be respected": this is the invitation that Benedict XVI addressed to the new ambassadors to the Holy See of India, Chad, Moldavia and Australia, who presented their credentials today. Ambassadors, said the Pope, "work hard to build bridges between countries". Even if, he added, "it is not enough to take decisions on peace and cooperation between nations to make them become effective": "Everyone must work hard and accept not to look for the interest of their neighbours or some particular social class, to the detriment of the general interest, but in favour of the common good of the populations of the country and of the whole mankind". "In the era of globalisation he said it is important that political life should not be mainly or only governed by economic matters, by the search for higher profits, by a reckless use of the earth’s resources to the detriment of the populations, especially the more disadvantaged ones, thus risking to stake a long-term claim on the future of the world". Peace too, he highlighted, "is rooted in the respect of religious freedom". Hence his appeal, "May everyone endorse the religion they choose, practise it freely and fearlessly, because no one can base their lives on the search for material wealth only".” “
