CEI MEETING: BENEDICT XVI, “THE GREAT CHRISTIAN TRADITION IS ITALY’S GREATEST WEALTH”

” “As he drew another topic to the attention of the Italian Bishops, who are gathered in their general meeting in the Vatican, that of the National Ecclesial Meeting of Verona (16-20 October 2006), Benedict XVI said: “As the subject is ‘Witnesses of Jesus Resurrected, hope of the world’, the Meeting will be a great time of communion for all the components of the Church in Italy”. Then, the Pope highlighted that in Verona, “they will be able to see how things stand about the road covered in the last few years and above all to look ahead, to face together the fundamental task of keeping alive the great Christian tradition that is Italy’s greatest wealth”. “Starting from Christ, and from Him only, – he added afterwards – from His victory over sin and death, can one respond to man’s fundamental need that is the need of God, not of distant, vague God, but the God that revealed Himself in Jesus Christ as the love that saves. And a new, relieving light can also be cast on the big issues of this day and age.”
