SWITZERLAND: CATHOLICS AND PROTESTANTS, A CERTIFICATE TO BE ADDED TO CVs TO ACKNOWLEDGE VOLUNTEER WORK

A guide to the acknowledgement of volunteer work carried out in Switzerland, to be added to one’s curriculum vitae when looking for a job: it was jointly published by the Federation of the Protestant Churches of Switzerland and by the Swiss Bishops Conference. The document is targeted to the people in charge of volunteer work within the church and associated bodies. A detailed file is available on line (www.eglises.ch/dossierbenevolat) with plenty of data about jobs, through which the volunteers can certify their work and their skills. A certification of these skills can be added to one’s curriculum vitae when looking for a job or between jobs. "In this way, the Churches acknowledges a demand that has become increasingly pressing over the last few years – specifies Mario Galgano, spokesman of the Swiss Bishops Conference -: that skills and notions acquired outside the official spheres of training and work be acknowledged and certified too". The electronic file includes a 12-page brochure about certifying volunteer work. "Now, it is more important than ever to work disinterestedly – state mgr. Amédée Grab, president of the Swiss Bishops Conference, and pastor Thomas Wipf, president of the Federation of the Protestant Churches of Switzerland – as well as obtain some tangible acknowledgement. Confident of our long tradition, we must do all we can for volunteering to remain excellent, so that in future it can keep existing and growing".
