” “Three weeks before the opening of the World Football Championship, in Germany on June 9th, the first red cards are beginning to be flapped around. Not against the players but against sex abuse and forced prostitution. The unbending referee is the Union of European Conferences of Major Superiors (Ucesm), which supports the initiatives of some female religious congregations according to which, on the occasion of the forthcoming World Football Championship, about 40,000 young women will be moved to Germany to practise prostitution. “Red card to sex abuse and forced prostitution” is the motto of the campaign, which put in place some preventative measures in the women’s native countries. Other measures include public awareness raising campaign and a 24h help line. The campaign is coordinated by “Solidarity with women in Distress – Solwodi”, a German NGO which helps women from Eastern Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa who have fallen prey to women trafficking. The danger is also stressed by the international network Rigys of the oblate missionaries, who have launched another initiative called “Offside” aiming at supporting the EU Parliament resolution against forced prostitution on the occasion of world sports events.
