ECUMENISM: EUROPEAN MEETING OF CHRISTIAN CULTURE; A MESSAGE FROM ALEXIUS II, “CATHOLICS AND ORTHODOX TOGETHER TO DEFEND THE CHRISTIAN VALUES”” “

The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, Alexius II, is also convinced that the Orthodox and the Catholic Church should work together at defending the Christian values before the modern world. This was confirmed in a message sent today to the European Meeting of Christian Culture, that is taking place in Vienna as a joint initiative – the first time ever – of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Patriarchate of Moscow and the Papal Council for Culture. “I believe – reads the message – our Churches, faithful to the apostolic tradition as to the fundamentals of the Christian view, should work together today at defending the fundamental values of Christianity”. According to Alexius II, Orthodox and Catholics “can give hope to the hearts of millions of people who sincerely search for the Reign of God and who do not just settle for the utilitarian purposes that are offered by consumer society”.
