INTER-RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE: MESSAGE TO BUDDHISTS FOR THE FEAST OF VESACH, "TOGETHER TO SERVE MANKIND"

An invitation to Buddhists and Christians to work together "to serve mankind". It is contained in the message that this year the Papal Council for Inter-religious Dialogue sent to Buddhists for the feast of "Vesach". This is the main Buddhist feast, which commemorates three highlights in the life of the historical Buddha. According to tradition, he was born, was enlightened and disappeared upon entering the Nirvana, always with the full moon of the month of May. The message had been signed year after year by the President of the Papal Council for Inter-religious Dialogue. This year, there’s no such signature, since mgr. Michael Fitzgerald – who has been heading the Vatican ministry since 2002 – left Rome for Cairo, to become the apostolic nuncio to Egypt and a delegate to the organisation of the League of the Arab States.
