The secretaries general of the 34 European Bishops Conferences will meet in Ljubljana (Slovenia) from June 24th to 27th. The meeting has been convened by the Slovenian Bishops Conference and by its secretary, Andrej Saje. The meeting will address several issues, such as: cooperation among the European Bishops Conferences in some urgent pastoral spheres, including migration, mass media, relations with Muslims in Europe, issues relating to ecumenism, in particular the development of the process of the Third European Ecumenical Assembly (Sibiu, Romania, 4-9 September 2007) and the growing presence of free, evangelical, Pentecostal Churches in Europe. The secretaries general of the Bishops Conferences will also tackle issues related to the European unification process: the debate on the Constitutional Treaty, the EU research program… Lastly, part of the meeting will be devoted to an exchange of opinions about topical issues regarding the life of the Bishops Conferences: the relation between the Church and the State, and human trafficking. A final release will be issued at the end of the meeting.
