HOLY LAND: PENTECOST; SABBAH (PATRIARCH), "AN END TO INJUSTICE AND OCCUPATION"

” “On Whit Sunday, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Michel Sabbah, condemned once again the state of violence and oppression in which the Holy Land is living. From the Benedictine Abbey of the Dormition in Jerusalem, where he celebrated Pentecostal mass yesterday, the Patriarch asked "to put an end to political injustices in this holy city, injustices that beget more injustices, thus creating a circle of violence and inhumanity which neglects the just desires of the parties to have security, freedom and the end of occupation". "With the end of occupation – said Sabbah – this land, and with it all of the international community, could find calm and security again and be once again a land of redemption and reconciliation". Then, the Patriarch invited "the believers" to "let themselves be filled by the Holy Spirit and not to remain silent before evil and the ongoing conflict. Pentecost – he explained – tells us that we cannot remain dumb or indifferent and just watch death and injustice". "In this land and in this city, there are still men and women from so many different nations and confessions that try to ward off, with their prayers, the evil of those who fight against Spirit and man. These – he concluded – are men and women who want to listen to the voice of the Church of Jerusalem and the Churches of Jerusalem that speaks of justice and equality for everyone on earth".” “
