GERMANY: LETTER FROM CARD. LEHMANN TO CHARLOTTE KNOBLOCH, NEW PRESIDENT OF THE CENTRAL JEWISH COUNCIL

Five weeks after the death of Paul Spiegel, the Central German Jewish Council has appointed president Charlotte Knobloch. In a letter sent to the new president who for years had been deputy president of the Central Council, the president of the German Bishops Conference, card. Karl Lehmann, congratulated Knobloch on "the continuation of the good, trustful cooperation established in the past”. "The meetings and interviews we have had reassure me that we will be able to face in mutual agreement the important tasks that await us", he added. "We are grateful for the endless progress of the Jewish-Christian dialogue in our country and we cannot stop increasing and developing this dialogue. Faith is the source of the respect of human dignity, it spurs everyone to take responsibility for opposing any form of terror, hatred and discrimination, while giving us the strength and the confidence we need to soothe pain and wounds".
