BENEDICT XVI: VALENCIA 2006; HELPING THE FAMILY, "ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT SERVICES FOR THE COMMON GOOD"

” “"A community of generations and the guarantor of a wealth of traditions": this is the way the Pope presented the family, yesterday, during the sermon at the Mass celebrated in Valencia for the V World Family Meeting.” “"Everyone – commented Benedict XVI – – has received life and its basic truths from someone else, and we are called to achieve perfection in a loving relation and communion with others. The family, based on the indissoluble marriage of man and woman, expresses this relational, filial and community dimension, and is the sphere in which man can be born with dignity, grow and develop as a whole". When a baby is born, "it receives a whole wealth of experience": as to this, "its parents have the inalienable duty and right to transmit it to their children: educating them to discover their own identity, to responsibly assert their moral freedom and their ability to love through the experience of being loved and above all in the encounter with God". Children, in their turn, "grow and mature as men, insofar as they trustingly welcome that legacy and that education that they slowly keep taking up. In this way, they can elaborate a personal synthesis of what they have received and what they learn". (to be continued) ” “
