COMMUNICATION: IN MAYNOOTH (IRELAND), THE CCEE MEETING OF THE SPOKESPERSONS OF THE EUROPEAN BISHOPS CONFERENCES

” “Islam in Europe; the Catholic perspective of freedom of the press and respect of religions; ecumenism issues, with special reference to the developments of the process of the Third European Ecumenical Assembly (Sibiu, Romania, 4-9 September 2007) and the reconciliation of the Churches in Northern Ireland; the agenda of the European Union, in particular the work of the “Information Society and Media” commission of the European Union. These are some of the items on the agenda of the meeting of the press agents and spokespersons of the European Bishops Conferences, that will meet in Maynooth (Ireland) from July 20th to 23rd. The agenda will also include an update on SirEuropa and the potential development of the daily and biweekly online news service in Italian and English. The meeting, promoted by Ccee (Council of European Bishops Conferences), will be attended by 35 delegates from 23 countries (Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Greece, England and Wales, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Sweden, Scotland, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and Hungary). On Saturday July 22nd, the participants will be received by the archbishop of Dublin and deputy president of Comece, Diarmuid Martin.
