MIDDLE EAST: THE APPEALS OF CARITAS JERUSALEM AND THE CUSTODY OF THE HOLY LAND, "DO NOT FORGET GAZA"

” “Half a million refugees in Lebanon, Gaza is risking a humanitarian catastrophe, with thousands of people without food, water or medications. To face this emergency, the Custody of the Holy Land has opened a solidarity fund raising. "The presence of the Friars Minor all over the Middle East involved in the conflict makes their efforts even more widespread", informs the Custody of the Holy Land. "Through the parishes, the lay associations and the charity networks, the Friars of the Custody are close to the people in Gaza, Beirut, Tyre and Haifa". Hence, the invitation "to not withdraw aids, which will soon turn into bread".” “Another appeal not to forget Gaza also comes from the Caritas of Jerusalem, which repeats the cry for help of the parish priest of the Strip, father Manuel Musallam: "we need food and water, but above all we need freedom and that the occupation be ended. There’s no electricity, food cannot be preserved. Petrol is in short supply". In such a predicament, Caritas of Jerusalem asks for "an immediate ceasefire and to give the humanitarian organisations a corridor to bring aids to the exhausted population".” “
